GLW2001
: Escape from the Prison
Wednesday
12th February 2020
It
was almost a nice day. A bit of hail in the morning.
A cold, strong wind. A glimpse of sun. Just
the day to go to Lancaster and visit the prison. But
somehow we ended up at Chesters at Skelwith Bridge where
the cafe was heaving.
So we we found ourselves having a bowl of soup in the Elterwater's
Brittania Inn. Then somehow again we (and we alone)
were driving
down the Langdale Valley. Next thing I knew we
were parked at Blea Tarn with Margaret intent on walking
round it.
Not been here for years, she explained.
It
is a spectacular setting. Wasn't it voted the
Lake District's favourite view a few years back- promoted
by Sally from Corrie? Maybe, but there was no-one
else there today. They must have still been stuffing
themselves at Chesters.
Pleasant
stroll around the Tarn with Langdales and its pals in
snow-capped view.
Side
Pike to the side!
Wetherlam
beyond the other end.
And
back to the car.
Then,
all of a sudden we were in the Heaton Cooper tea room,
just as it was closing, scoffing the cakes that they
had just put on one side. The girl said they would
have been thrown away but I suspect they were going
to have them at home- well they had been wrapped. I
don't blame them. They were delicious.
Sorry,
girls.
And
then we were home. What an escape from the prison!
