GLW2203 : A Tarn Hows Round

Thursday 27th January 2022

We must be getting old.  We're getting to the "Let's go for a drive" stage rather than "Let's go for a walk".  I think we are at the half-way stage.  Perhaps we need a dog?

Today it was "Let's go for a drive and a short walk in the Lakes.  We'll take a picnic."

So we did.  We drove to the car park above Tarn Hows where you can actually see the view  We had a front row seat so out came the flask and sandwiches.

A brisk walk around the tarn was the plan so we moved the car to the main car park and set off clockwise.

There were quite a few people about.  Not so many as to make it feel overcrowded but quite a few.  Some with young children.  Many with dogs.

Clearly the storms did a lot of damage to the surrounding trees.  The National Trust woodsmen have been kept very busy clearing the path.  However some of the fallen trees had clearly dropped some years ago as new growth had shot up since.

The Old Man of Coniston had his head in the cloud.  Wetherlam was clear.

It was a pleasant outing.  Weather was OK.  A bit chilly and not quite as sunny as expected but perfectly acceptable for the time of year.  Add in the journey down the west side of Coniston and it definitely counts as going for a drive and a walk.

Great Little ones in both cases
