Up
The Pipeline TW06
: Dodding Green to Staveley
Tuesday
1st July 2014
"I
told you it would rain" said Mrs Smug as we drove
along to the rendez-vous in Staveley. I have to admit
that she was right and the Met Office plus Mr Hew Howont-Betold
were wrong. It was bucketing down. Fortunately
by the time we had met up with Ian & Cynthia and
driven to the start point at Dodding Green the worst
had passed and we were able to set off up the pipeline
once more.
Yet
again, the official way does not follow the pipeline.
Indeed I doubt if there was any evidence of it
to be seen.
On
the other hand, our unofficial route ran very close
to the pipeline for much of the walk- we certainly saw
more pipeline gates and possibly more buildings than
on any previous section.
What
is more, I think we saw more interesting countryside
than had we followed the book.
I
don't intend to produce a detailed route report. It
was mostly across fields to Potter Fell Lane, mostly
on tracks and road to the River Kent then mostly along
river bank, finally as per the official route, to the
Eagle & Child in Staveley.
In
conclusion I must report on their Whitby Scampi, Mushy
Peas and Chips. Delicious.
