GLW1114
: Another Staveley Round
Saturday
19th November 2011
An
unexpectedly nice afternoon unexpectedly free led us
to Staveley to the Mill Yard car park.
If
you think you have heard that before, you have. It
is the opening sentence of BB1113
from twelve days ago but applies equally to today.
The
intention was another loop starting and finishing in
Staveley but heading a bit further up the valley this
time.
We
crossed the river by the same bridge but this time turned
left and headed to Barley Bridge where we followed the
road up the hill for a short while before cutting northeast
across the fields. On reaching the (very) minor
road we turned left and carried on past Ghyll Bank (the
white house that can be seen for miles) and on to High
House.
Heading
west, we took lunch near the high point where there
are superb vies of the Kentmere hills then dropped down
to Park House, making acquaintance with various horses
(big and little) on the way.
North
for a short distance alongside Hall Beck, the we bore
left and down through the woods to the Kentmere valley
road.
We
crossed the Ullthwaite bridge, yet again posing for
a photo as we have done many times over the years, then
followed Browfoot Lane back to Staveley, the first sign
of the festive season and the Mill Yard. This time we
resisted the temptations of the Brewery. Shame!
For
future reference, it would be easy to integrate BB1113
and BB1114 to give a longer and slightly more
challenging walk. With a Brewery reward at the
end, of course!
