: A Walk over Birkrigg Common
Thursday
3rd April 2025
Upon
the coast at Bardsea's gentle shore, We
wandered, as in times of yore, Where
sea and sky in blue embrace conspire, And
whispers of the waves lift hearts higher.

Through
Sea Wood green, where ancient spirits dwell, Beneath
the canopy of nature's spell, We trod
the path where trees in silence stood, And
felt the pulse of life within the land.

To
Birkrigg Common, high and vast we climbed, Where
history's breath echoes through the time, The
bronze age stones in solemn circle lay, Guardians
of secrets from an ancient day.

The
Quaker burial ground, serene and still, Speaks
of a faith unbroken by the will, Of those
who sought in quietude to rest, Their
souls in peace, their lives forever blessed.

And
to the north, the Lakeland fells arise, Majestic
peaks that kiss the azure skies, The
Hoad monument stands proud and bold, A
sentinel of stories yet untold.

With
hearts refreshed and souls in tranquil ease, We
wandered back, with thoughts as light as
breeze, To Bardsea's Ship Inn, where
in warm embrace, We found a haven, a
kindly resting place.

There,
amidst the laughter and the cheer, We
shared a meal, with a friend held dear, And
thus concluded our journey, rich and grand, Through
wonders in this blessed land.
