Day 1- Monday 16th September 2019

In a beautiful Indian Summer.  Excellent train journey via Birmingham (where we picked up sandwiches) and Exeter.  Connections both on time.  Not bad after 7 ½ hours.

On the Cornwall train a kind lady offered her seat by the window so I could enjoy views.  Don offered her some refreshments but she declined but the trolley man gave her a Twix anyway!  Everyone suitably impressed.  A nice lady visiting her friend in St Austell.  Arrived on time.

The hire car was waiting just outside and the chap went over everything.  All straightforward although needs two pieces of identity with addresses IN ADDITION to driving licences!  The Kia car was very good.

Not far to Luxulyan and the “Old Vicarage”.  Overshot the entrance and went down a long drive to wrong house.  Not a good move; owner not friends with our B&B hosts!

Wendy met us and showed us our very nice room-spotlessly clean and very tasteful (as we have similar soft-furnishings!).  Apparently she is a professional needlewoman.

After unpacking, walked to the Kings Arms before last orders.  Other residents in there too.  There was an old map of the village on the wall.  Where had my ancestors lived?

Long day.  G&T very welcome.
