Day
3- Wednesday 18th
Next
morning, after talking to other guests at the B&B-
Ian and Sylvie (from Minnesota although Ian a Brit and
Sylvie Canadian) and a large German lady.
Duporth
Connected
with Henry and Lizzie. Fortunately Henry was home
for the day (had a charitable trust meeting in the afternoon).
They
kindly invited us round to their house in Duporth. They
were very friendly and Eleanor, as Diane puts it, is
a “force of nature” but very cute. We walked down
to their area’s private beach, past Diane & Robert’s
flat. It was very attractive and we can see why
they all love it so much.
After
a quick cup of tea in the garden we headed off to the
famous Lost Gardens of Heligan.
Lost
Gardens of Heligan
We
were not disappointed- plenty of great things to see.
Hi-lights were:
1
The formal gardens with lots of late flower colour-
dahlias, Japanese anemones, Verbenas, rubeckias, asters,
heleniums, lobelias, canna lilies.
2
Italian Lake
3
Potting shed
4
Rare breeds
5
Down the Lost Valley and the Jungle and across the Rope
Bridge (good fun).
6
The sculptures. All very nicely done.
After
the gardens we made our way further down the cost to
Gorran Haven.
Gorran
Haven
This
has a very steep and very narrow road down to the beach
but fortunately it was one way and ½ way up the
other side was a car park in a field with a man with
change to take the £2 (Don much happier).
The
walk down revealed another small beach and a harbour
wall so of course another clotted cream ice cream, this
time blackcurrant and honeycomb ones. We sat on
the harbour wall watching the young boys swimming and
jumping in from great heights.
We
travelled back through Port Mellon and Megavissey but
thought we wouldn’t venture back- pleased we went to
lovely Gorran Haven.
Rest
and changed at B&B- tea at the Kings Arms again.
