We
could have walked from home but time was a little tight
so we drove to what used to be Dilly Bridge in the days
when there was a canal, left the car there and strode
towards Kendal along the towpath.

The

Our
route took us up by Natland Mill Beck, across the A65,
still following the beck as far as Kendal Parks Road.
I am not sure what then happened to the beck but
we continued up the road, past a house with an interesting
display of model houses in its front garden

Not
long after, the road turned into a track. Virgin
territory for us, it passed under two railway bridge,
first the Windermere branch line and then the Glasgow
- London mainline.

Our
path turned left and we followed the railway until it
met the Sedbergh Road then we dropped down toward Kendal,
leaving the road to cut through to Birk Hagg. Once
over the branch line and through the houses we climbed
up the fields for a fine viewpoint over Kendal that
neither of us had visited previously! It was worth
the modest effort.

Dropping
down to Kendal
We
regained the road near the Kendal Cricket Club, dropped
down Parkside Road, then along the canal path south,
past Kirkbie Kendal School and eventually back to the
car on Natland Road.
It
was an interesting stroll, not least to cover so much
ground so close to Kendal that was new to us despite
living here for over forty years!
