The Beetham
Round
Saturday
4th June 2011
The
date is not entirely accurate. We actually did
a variant of this walk a couple of weeks ago and determined
to come back and write it up properly. However
I had half forgotten and today's circuit, a little different
to that of before, is neither the walk we did previously
nor the one I intended to write up. Nevermind!
It was a good place to take Jamie when time was
short.
We
parked at Beetham and headed for the Heron Corn Mill.
True to its name, a heron was fishing the river
out the back.

After
a good look round the old mill, we climbed the gentle
rise in the grounds of Dallam Towers- a fine old house,
dropping down to the river at the exit.

After
a none too pleasant but short road march, we found
the quieter back road that runs between the commercial
units and the quarry (as opposed to doubling back via
Hollins Well as we did previously). The path up
to Haverbrak Bank was cunningly hidden behind a new
conversion but it didn't fool us for long and up into
the hazel woods we climbed. Fortunately the path
on the ground was reasonably akin to that on the map
and we emerged on the back road near where we always
used to park when visitng Fairy Steps.

Today,
however, we were tight on time so followed the road
down to Beetham.
This
is a lovely area and there are several variations of
this walk that hopefully we will do in the future.
