BB1434 : The BOOTboy's Bare Botty

Wednesday 17th September 2014

Today we saw a sight, the like of which has not been seen on a BOOTboys outing for more than ten years.  In fact, not since BB0407 when Graham got his kit off and swam naked in a tarn.

Today, it was Terry's turn to expose a BOOTboy's Bare Botty

First, however, he had to work up a sweat.  In fact, the day started with sweat although it was mostly Mike's frustration due to the stupid way the car parking system works in Coniston when you try to pay on a credit card for a car registered in someone else's name.  After several attempts and long waits for nothing, we reverted to old fashioned methods.  Cash. Wake up, SLDC.

We set off up the Coppermines Valley with, what had not been expected so early from the forecast, a clear view of Coniston Old Man and the mine workings below it.

The target was Wetherlam which we approached from its southern ridge, consequently the summit could not be seen until arrival.

The weather continued its remarkable run. It was warm and slightly veiled making the distant views not as clear as might have been hoped.

Nevertheless, the summit provides a wide panorama of the Lakeland tops and a suitable place to get out of the breeze and take lunch.

Levers Water

The descent to Levers Water was without incident, something that Terry intended to put right.  Off came his clothes and, without a moment's hesitation, he plunged into the tarn. It is a pity that he didn't have a larger audience although we later discovered that he had been watched from a distance by a young lady.  We also discovered that she had done the same thing but sadly before we arrived so no photos of her.  Plenty of Terry, however!

Mike just cooled his feet.

Excitement over, we made our way back to Coniston, spotting the hangliders above The Old Man, wondering what the Essex Count Fire and Rescue Service were doing so far north and then, in the light of Terry's activities, laughing at the notice outside the car park toilets.

All the way from Essex?

Walk completed, we returned yet again to the Hare & Hounds at Levens.

Or should that be the Bare & Rounds?

Same again, please Terry!
