BB1736 : Edinburgh by Night

Thursday 26th October 2017

It is 8:08 p.m. on Thursday.  I know this because the clock on the Balmoral Hotel across the road tells me so.  I am in Edinburgh. BOOTboys finished early today. I was going to write the report on the train.  I fell asleep.

It is midnight and I am back in the motel room. The Guildford Arms was good. The old town skyline is lit up. Margaret is asleep beside me. I have no inspiration for the report.

It is 5 a.m. on Friday.  Margaret is still asleep.  I have been awake for the last hour. I have written the report in my mind.  I hope I remember it in the morning.

It is 10 a.m. on Thursday.  It’s a late start. Mike and Terry were late home from a gig in Manchester last night.

We are near Silverdale to start walking.

A woman with eight dogs sets off at the same time.  One of the dogs doesn’t like me. She says it is because I am wearing a hat.  I take it off.

It is 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. We are at Middlebarrow Quarry.  It is huge and disused. We have been to the rim and crossed to the other side.

There is a good track and a sign saying footpath.  We find a drum. A game keeper politely asks us to leave.  He says the drum is for feeding pheasant.  We are not to touch it.  He says this is not the footpath.  Please go back.  We did. The sign is not fixed to the ground.  It was in the wrong place.

It is 10:30 a.m. on Friday  We are in Jenners on Princes Street.  The sun is shining on the Old Town.  The coffee is good.  The doughnut wonderful.  I am writing.

It is 11:30 on Thursday.  We are at the Arnside Knott view point.  The day is not as good as we expected.  It is still a fine view.

It is 11:30 a.m. on Friday.  We are still in Jenners.  Margaret is trying on a dress.  I am looking across to the old town in the sun.  I am still writing.

It is noon on Thursday.  There are some pigs.  One is enormous.  It is a Gloucestershire Old Spot.  The pigs like Robin.  It is mutual.

It is 1 p.m. on Thursday.  We are at the Pepperpot. There is a dog. It is cute. It is a Chinese Crested Powderpuff.  It likes me. It is mutual.

Mike doesn’t like the Pepperpot. He says it is ugly.  A marker points to Blackpool Tower.

It is 1 p.m. on Friday.  I have finished writing. Margaret has finished shopping. We have enough money left for lunch. We are at the Scottish National Gallery with Kirstie and Peter.  He of the Past President's Visit.

It is 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.  We walked through Silverdale and into the woods.

We visited three wells*. We crossed a broken bridge.

We are back at the car.  I leave to catch the train to Edinburgh.

It is 3:30 p.m. on Friday.  Peter and I are on top of Arthur’s seat.  Many people are there.  The city is spread below us.  Edinburgh by day.
