: God Wants Us To Be Happy
Friday
14th June 2019
It
was Benjamin Franklin who wrote “Behold
the rain which descends from heaven.”
He went on to explain that this is
a constant proof that God loves to see us
happy.
Well,
he has certainly tried to make us happy
recently. Indeed, very happy.
However,
this afternoon we had the rare opportunity
to be miserable. Time for a quick
trot before happiness would rain down upon
us once more.
There
is little point in going into detail. There
is not a lot to say. Basically we
started from Stan’s house in Kendal and
climbed up through the fields to Paddy Lane.
Stan
had an encounter with a small horse, reminiscent
of the apple incident on BB0807b.
From
there, a bit of a meander took us past the
Thirlmere Pipeline inspection building then
up the back of the Helm to the ridge.
We
wandered south as far as the summit cairn
where we had to make a decision. In
my mind, this was the half-way point. I
had plans for an interesting round that
would take us through the fields and lanes
to the south of Kendal. However Mike
had his eyes on a different sort of round.
“Look,”
he said, pointing. “There’s the Punchbowl.
That’s where we could be really happy.”
Stan agreed. How could I persuade
them otherwise when their minds were set
on that destination? Not possible.
By
the quickest route we dropped down and entered
the pub. It was then that I realised
what Mike had meant. There, written
on a beam was the statement:
We
put the statement to the test and I can
confirm that, despite being ankle deep in
cow plop under the railway bridge, we finished
off the stroll down into Natland very happy
indeed.
