: We'll Meet Again
Monday
17th March 2020
Back
in the days when I could actually
understand serious mathematics,
I was particularly interested
in Chaos Theory with its fractional
dimensions and strange attractors.
Perhaps its best known
anecdote is that of the flapping
of a butterfly's wings having
catastrophic effects on the
other side of the world.
|
|
Only
this time, it wasn't the action of an elusive
butterfly. It was a chicken. Or
a bat. Or a snake. In China.
Whichever,
here on the other side of the world, its
effects are gaining momentum. One,
though far from being the most serious,
relates to the activity of the BOOTboys.
Given our relatively advanced years,
circumstances have forced several of us
to self-isolate. Consequently, for
the time being, our adventures have had
to be suspended.
There
has been speculation about us travelling
separately and then walking a yard apart
like some kind of chain gang or maybe using
our poles to prod anyone who comes too close.
But it's not the same. The beer
& banter is as much of the outing as
the exercise.
It
could well be several months before we next
take to the hills as a group of old men
walking and doing other daft things and,
likewise, several months before I inflict
any more of my ramblings upon you. So
I will take this opportunity to say thank
you for reading (or at least opening) the
various pages of waffle I have previously
inflicted upon you, to thank you for the
many and mostly kind comments that you have
made and to wish health and happiness to
you and yours through this challenging period.
Hopefully it will not be too long
before normal service is resumed.
To
misquote the Bard:
When
shall we BOOTboys meet again? In
thunder, lightning or in rain? When
Coronavirus has gone When
the Covid battle’s won That’s
when we'll be in the sun.
Where
the place? Upon the fells There
to meet upon Cat Bells

Or
if you prefer some music with which to end
this edition, you could click on the first
two album covers below and listen to two
totally different songs(?) asking "Where
have all the Bootboys gone?" However
you might prefer to head straight for Dame
Vera who, when clicked, will confirm that
We'll meet again. Don't know where,
don't know when. I look forward to
that sunny day.
