BB2028
: Strange Very Seem Might It?
Thursday

Frustration
of sort that ..... strange very
seem might it.
No,
it is not Yoda speaking.
It
is what could have been the
easy and accurate way to start
and finish this report as the
intention was BB2006
: Frustrated by the Sun
in reverse. Up from High
Borrans via Long Crag to
Sallows. Round to Sour
Howes then down to the Dubbs
Road and back to the car.

However
it is a somewhat different world now. Parking
is the great challenge. Five people, five
cars needed. Bryan tells of Horton-in-Ribblesdale
car parking spaces being full by 8:45 a.m.
(rescued by enterprising farmer opening
his field at £4 per car); the Haweswater
road to Mardale Head clogged by 7 a.m. Valleys
like Kentmere and Longsleddale being virtually
inaccessible due to very limited parking.
Even Troutbeck being challenging as
we have recently discovered. So it
was with trepidation that we each drove
to the bottom of the Dubbs Road where there
is room for maybe eight cars at most only
to find that..... there was no-one else
there!
Holly
doesn't understand social distancing. She
bounded round giving us all a friendly kiss.
After all, she hadn't seen us for
nearly six months. Nor had Robin but
fortunately he resisted the temptation.
First
difference to BB2006
was that, instead of focusing
on High
Borrans,
we had a short side excursion
to what the OS map simply calls
Settlement.
You
can find out a bit more about
this Romano-British enclosure
at Historic
England.
This
aerial photo borrowed from Lake
District Walks
gives a better idea of the layout
than what we could see over
the field wall.

Back
on the main track, we turned off a little
sooner than we should but then headed for
the Long Crag bumps that lead up to the
Sallows summit.
There
was no-one else using this route way but
there were a few people at the top who had
come up from the Troutbeck side.
Before
we reached Sour Howes, some bullocks took
an unwelcome interest in Holly but then
found our interest in them even more unwelcome.
We
pioneered a new descent to bring us closer
to the Dubbs Reservoir than the normal route.
Then
it was back to the cars and home, passing
the Brewery without stopping. Strange very
seem might it?
