BB2033
: The Three What?
Wednesday
16th September 2020
Three
Amigos? Three Stooges? Three Sisters? Three
Kings? Three Musketeers?
Each
week Don manages to come up with an entertaining
theme to make his walk blog interesting.
How does he do it? It’s bad
enough having to do the odd one here and
there.
As
it’s not long since Philip,
Tony and Mike found themselves
thrown together for a walk (BB2029),
as result of one after another
of the other BBs dropping out.
So it seems we might be developing
a pattern. We’d need a team
name.
None
of the above work, at least
not for me. Amigos? Yes we are,
but we’re not in Mexico and
don’t have large hats. Stooges?
We weren’t pressured into this.
Sisters? Kings? No way.
And Musketeers? We don’t
have any guns, and aren’t French.
And don’t even think of suggesting
three little piggies. Philip
would object!

Mike,
Tony, Philip - the Three ??????????????????s

Finally
I Googled “three” and came up with “three
wheeler disability scooters”……. one day
maybe, but definitely not now. [Suggestions
(polite ones) on a postcard please - Ed.]
Anyway,
we met at Arnside opposite the
station. Until Covid struck,
there was a nice little café
there called "Moochin’
About"
The
guy who owned it has a small
record business producing music
from films in the 60’s. They
played real vinyl records, usually
jazz or blues, whilst you had
your Cavettii coffee.
On
Sunday mornings, we often used
to park at Sandside and walk
across the flat marshland to
the cafe. It blew the cobwebs
away, especially in winter.
In its place there appeared
an art shop, obviously run by
an arty optimist. That’s also
sadly gone.

Timing
in business is everything, and during Covid,
very risky. But the good news is a new café
has opened. Not that we had time for coffee,
at least not there. I’ll be back though.
It
was a beautiful day. Sunny, with a nice
breeze. A one layer all the way round sort
of day. Also, there were no stinging nettles,
no really soggy bogs to walk through, and
hopefully no tics. We did encounter
people though, all very polite and mostly
saying "Hi". There was less of
that avoiding us like the plague behaviour,
thank goodness.
Instead
of going anticlockwise to the sea, we headed
East. We saw some interesting
cars.
We
lingered at the Hazelslack Tower, strode
across beautiful sylvan fields and through
majestic ancient woodlands.
We
stopped, briefly, for coffee from a flask.
We skirted Gait Burrow’s Nature Reserve,
past Challan Hall, a friend’s house, to
Eaves Wood, where we ate lunch.
Our
next historic building was, you guessed
it, Arnside Tower. BB’s have been there
many times, though usually in winter.
Finally,
we ascended Arnside Knott where clear views
awaited.
You
could even see Blackpool Tower.
Instead
of continuing the planned route via Hollins
Farm and caravan site south, we took a short
cut down to New Barns and enjoyed a sandy
walk back to sunny Arnside and the Albion.
A
table for three somethings was waiting for
us. That’s it, The Three Pints!
