BB2215 : Restricted to Just Five Words

Wednesday 11th May 2022

Those readers who can remember the times before 16th September 1968 may recall that it then cost 4d (four old pennies) to send a letter.  However you could send a postcard for the reduced sum of thruppence (3d) provided the message was “restricted to five words”.

I wonder if the children of Langdale School were aware of this when they designed their amazing mural.  Anyway they inspired me to see if I could write today’s report as a series of reduced rate postcards.

So, how did I do?  Did I achieve the objective?

Answers on a postcard, please.  Not more than five words.

A Posthumous Completion

Last  week's report, BB2214 : Happy Birthday Mister President, mentioned that there were three Monros that Sir Hugh had failed to climb due to him having died in the flu epidemic at the end of the First World War.

It added that Peter's friend at the Scottish Mountaineering Society had put matters right by carrying to the tops an effigy of the great man.

Peter subseqeuntly sent me an extract from The Munroist's Companion that contains a humourous description of how this was achieved.

If you click on the photo you will see the full article.  It's an entertaining read.

Comments in just five words:

Alan S:  "Go to top of class!"

Don:  "Thank you kindly, good Sir."

Helen did actually send me a postcard, all the way from Chamonix, with the five word message:
"You are just great, Don!"

To which I naturally responded:
"A very kind message indeed!"
