: Mostly Pleasant
Wednesday
26th July 2023
As
you know, I like to find something of interest
on our outings that I can weave into a theme
for the report.
Today
I thought I might have found a theme. Stan
(with Pedro) and I had walked up from Sizergh
Castle to meet Stuart at Helsington Church.
There in the road, in blue and red
writing, was some graffiti that at the time
I couldn’t make out but, thinking that it
might lead to a theme for the walk, I took
a picture of it for later examination then
moved on to catch up with the others.
That
examination I have now done. I can
report that it surprised me. It is
probably the second weirdest piece of written
graffiti that I have seen. I won’t
say any more about the first. This
was on not dissimilar lines and I shall
say no more about this either other than
it was childish and yet, in a strange way,
sophisticated at the same time. And,
inevitably, anatomical. I shall not
be publishing the picture. It is now
raining and so it might well have passed
into history, unless what I thought was
chalk turns out to be something more permanent.
I hope not. It’s not very pleasant.
So
what else can I tell you that might make
it worth your while reading on?
It
was a pleasant day. It was a pleasant
stroll up to the Scout Scar trig point,
arriving from the Warriner’s Wood side.
The
Mushroom was a pleasant stop for lunch.
It
was good to see that the signs depicting
the hills have been restored.
The
view over to the Lakeland Fells was not
as clear as we might have liked but pleasant
none-the-less.
It
was a pleasant continuation to the steep
descent to Barrowfield where we said farewell
to Stuart.
It
was then a pleasant stroll through the wood
followed by a not so pleasant road slog
back up to the church. It concluded
with a pleasant walk through the fields
from which I could see our very pleasant
house....
.....
then back to Sizergh Castle and the car.
I
don’t mean to damn it with faint praise.
We have covered this area so often
that it is difficult to find anything new
to say. It’s a very pleasant area
to walk.
